VP of Financial Operations

Location: Nashville, TN

Experience: 10+ Years


The VP of Financial Operations is responsible for assisting management in the development of the company’s financial plans and policies; the development and implementation of its accounting practices, the conduct of its relationships with lending institutions, clients and vendors; the maintenance of its fiscal records; and the preparation of financial reports.


The VP of Financial Operations is accountable for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting and timekeeping records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results. 


The VP of Financial Operations also manages the IT, Human Resources and General Administrative overhead functions, including those that are outsourced.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains the system of accounts and records on all company transactions and assets; reconciling, balancing, investigating and resolving any account discrepancies
  • Prepares reports and analysis for management that outline the company's financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and future operations
  • Coordinates and assists with the preparation of the annual budget and financial forecasts
  • Drives and maintains other financial process improvements including software integration, control procedures, and analyzing and reporting variances 
  • Manages all aspects of accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and timely month-end closing activities
  • Provides counsel to the CEO, COO and management team to assure the company meets financial performance goals
  • Assists the management team in identifying and selecting appropriate financial review metrics; points out financial problems, or potential financial problems, and makes recommendations as to how to resolve them
  • Trains and ensures that managers are provided the financial information they need to manage sales forecasts, projects, departments and budgets. Drives and provides guidance and support related to cost control and financial management of specific projects as required
  • Sets positive, compelling goals and aggressive schedules for improvement. Translates the vision/mission of the organization into actionable, quantitative plans. Conveys a sense of urgency and drives issues to closure
  • Carries out company policies and programs that deliver exceptional customer service. Communicates excitement about the business and motivates others to pursue common objectives
  • Builds and sustains excellent relationships at all levels, both internally and externally. Uses relationship networks to strategically accomplish objectives. Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation with customers, vendors, co-workers and management 
  • Ensures that the organization is current on contracts and memberships (GSA, D&B, WBENC, WBE, etc.) and applicable legal compliance matters, including licensing and insurance requirements
  • Management of password protected subscriptions, licenses, and memberships
  • Responsible for HR compliance in accordance with state and federal regulations; manages outsourced IT, payroll, benefits, accountants, and misc. contract services


Essential Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of related hands-on experience and strategic financial planning with a high degree of integrity and minimal on the job training
  • Hands-on experience with all accounting responsibilities including but not limited to cash flow management, monthly financial statement preparation, analysis, and budget planning 
  • Personal accountability: functioning with little guidance and direct accountability for operational, human and fiscal resources
  • Leadership: ability to work well with people at all levels/strong supervision and development of others. Proven ability to lead change and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while enhancing culture and business performance
  • Results-oriented: holds people accountable for agreed-to results. Identifies and keeps others focused on the most important metrics that drive the business
  • Able to motivate others to pursue common objectives with excitement about the future. Radiates enthusiasm for goals and infects others with a shared optimism and excitement. Conveys a genuine belief to succeed despite the toughest obstacles
  • Excellent reasoning ability, able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience with Wrike a plus and proficient in Microsoft Excel is required
